Digging Dinosaurs

We are digging dinosaurs today, and every day.

The day started out with a fun preview. My son went right for the dino figures and puzzles, which are now too easy for him.

Next up where the books.

My son loves his Old Mac Dino book! He thinks it's so funny and has started remembering names.

We listened to songs

Dinosaur Stomp

We also watched Dinosaur Train videos, played the games, and looked at the fun printables, too.

and stomped like dinos.

Then we used Do a Dot markers and fuzzy balls to find and make the letter D

and played with our Melissa & Doug reusable stickers.

Dino nuggets were a hit, and we also ate eggs and veggies like some dinosaurs did.

This Dinosaur Bath Toy was such a hit!

We went from one set of dino pajamas in the morning to another at night!

Check out my other dinosaur and egg themed posts as well as see our trip to Liberty Science Center for the Dinosaur Train exhibit.

Earth Day activities

Happy Earth Day!

We raised 5 butterflies from our Eric Carle Insect Lore kit and released them today!

We also crawled through tunnels like caterpillars,

and did Do-a-Dot caterpillars.

Find the full color printable here. Older kids can cut and glue the circles at the bottom.

We also listened to some silly songs,

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Song

made fuzzy caterpillars with pom poms,

and played with our caterpillar in the chrysalis (Jack in a box).

We knew that butterflies need a temp above 55 degrees Fahrenheit to be released, so we made a sugar water mixture and gave them fruit for two days before it was warm enough.

How did you celebrate Earth today?

Pig Pancakes and Pudding

If you give a pig a pancake,

he’s going to want to make some himself...

Check out the Melissa & Doug Pancake set here.

and read books about pigs, especially doing the same things the pigs do.

If You Give a Pig a Pancake book

.

Babe, the Sheep Pig: Oops, Pig! book                         Oh, What a Mess! book

We played piano,

Grab the hilarious Potty Piano here.

put money in the piggy bank,

put stamps on postcards for Mommy’s students,

played with pigs on the farm,

did a virtual farm trip,

and watched Charlotte’s Web.

We tried to make pig mud with finger paint (my kid hates to get dirty) and then ate chocolate "pig" pudding for dessert.

Watch “Alley Oh” - the pirate version of The Three Little Pigs (my son loves it)

If You Give a Pig a Pancake video

Jim Gaffigan “Bacon” - my kid laughs so hard!

Going on a Bear Hunt?

We’re going on a bear hunt... because today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic!

We found them hiding in a cave with our binoculars,

did a bear puzzle,

Melissa & Doug Basic Skills puzzle

and used our new picnic table for lunch.

Frog Fun Friday

Frog Fun Friday!

We used foam insect stickers, which my son called "phone stickers" - hence the prop he carried! Mine are quite old, so you can use these foam insect stickers to make your own art or game.

As always, we did Do a Dot F with the paint markers and fuzzy pom poms since he loves them so much!

We read frog books like The Very Funny Frog

(Here's a video if you don't want to purchase it.)

and Frog Gets Lost,

and played Alphabet Bug Splat with our Eric Carle friends from his Busy Book.

Grab some fly swatters at your local dollar store and print out some bug alphabet cards.

We also took a rainy day stroll to the lake we live at to look for frogs. Then we hopped to Five Little Speckled Frogs

and participated in Frank the Frog Cosmic Yoga.

Here are some frog facts we learned.

We also took a virtual field trip to meet frogs and other amphibians.

This Mr. Mouth Feed the Frog game looks like so much fun! You can practice counting, colors, and eye-hand contact.

I personally loved these jumping frogs as a kid.
